When soci-ety doesn’t place the highest emphasis on corrosion planning, asset integrity, and sustainability, we see catastrophic and tragic consequences. Whether in the form of a dead car bat-C tery, a pipeline leak, or a bridge collapse, unmitigated corrosion threatens public safety and costs billions of dollars annu-ally. Coatings professionals have seen these challenges firsthand. So how do we change the status quo? By working together and advocating for a better future. The most important way for the indus-try to solve these challenges is to first raise awareness of the dangers of cor-rosion. Both the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) and NACE International carried this message for more than 70 years. Now, the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP), the merged organization of the two associ-ations, is building on this progress and advancing a similar vision. AMPP’s mission is to advance the per-formance of materials to protect society, assets, and the environment.
